Building Power Supply Groups

Valid for S700.

General

Since the failure rate of the servo amplifiers is very small, a line protection is sufficient from cost perspective. Further cost saving can be reached by group protection concept.

If however a selective protection of the power supply is required because of machine availability, and if beside the line protection additionally a device protection is required, a single protection or a so-called drive Fuse is recommended.

Group Protection in CE Region

The grouping and/or connecting the voltage supply can be done with the Y-plug (see Accessories Manual). With these Y-plugs the three-phase mains voltage and PE can be ground through.

Important: max. protection with 30A/32A when using 6mm ² lines, and the sum of the rated currents of the servo amplifiers, which are connected in a group together must not exceed 24A !

A meaningful maximum group size is 4 - 5 devices, because, theoretically could be connected 16 x S701 (i.e. 16 x 1,5A = 24A) together!

The table shows permitted device groups:

*) if the protection cuts out in case of all peak currents of all servo amplifiers in one group simultanuously, then the protection and the wire cross section must be increased!

Group Protection in UL/cUL Region

Servo amplifiers with 24A, 12A and 6A must be single protected!

Servo amplifiers with rated current 3A and 1,5A may be protected in groups with max. 6A.

Important: Maximum protection with 6A with matching AWG lines, the sum of rated currents of all servo amplifiers in one group must not exceed 6A.
